The Lake San Marcos Decathalon

7-9 am: 9 Holes Riding

Be the first group out as you catch the sun rising over the hills surrounding Lake San Marcos. Hole out on #9 green & take a deep breath as you inventory all of the activities you still have ahead of you….

9:00-10:00 am: Breakfast In The Grill

Everyone knows, breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day. Indulge in The Grill’s hearty “St. Mark Breakfast Plate,” or sugary-sweet “Crème Brûlèe French Toast”. Trust us, you’ll be thanking yourself later this evening for the carb load.

10:00-11:00: Doubles Tennis

Team up in pairs in one of the Lodge’s four regulation tennis courts, or on our unique paddleball court. This may end up being the most intense, concentrated calorie burn of the day. Just one hour of doubles tennis will work off on average, about 350 calories. You may want to throw on a change of clothes after this one!

11:00 am-12:00 pm: Paddleboard

Lake Paddle Boarding is either something you’ve never tried, or your favorite hobby. There is no middle ground. For novices, spend the first 15-20 minutes of your last a.m. activity learning the in’s and out’s of paddle boarding such as foot and hand placement, tempo, current manipulation, and more from our new instructor, Adrienne Wegemester.

12:00-1:00 pm: Lunch at Tap In Tavern

Dry off, stretch out, and mosey up to St. Mark Executive Course, where you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover affordable grub and over 60 local and popular craft beers. Load up on neighborhood favorites such as the Crispy Chicken Bites, or The Executive Burger. The Tap In Tavern carries every sporting event you can imagine, and is the premier location in Lake San Marcos to enjoy any big game. However, if your team isn’t playing at the time, do yourself a favor and opt for a meal on the outdoor patio. The views surely will not disappoint.

1:00-2:00 pm: Kayak Races

Kayaking through every nook and cranny of Lake San Marcos’ 1.8 square mile perimeter certainly will be an incredible calorie burn, but that’s surely not all. You can take in a view of the golf on one side of the water, then move to the opposite side, where you’ll find a dam with secluded and serene views of the hillside collapsing in on both sides of you. Whether you opt to kayak solo or with a group, a ride through the lake makes for a great workout and relaxing afternoon both at the same time.

2:00-3:00: Swim & Tan

By the time the 2:00 hour rolls around, chances are you’re hitting your midday crash and ready to unwind. From families with young children to the couple looking for a relaxing afternoon with their feet in the water, the Lodge at LSM provides members with two pools that best suit their needs of each member and guest. After your kayak adventure through the lake, take some time to cool off, splash around, and genuinely relax. Calorie burn ranges for activity level. High-energy swimmers can find this segment of the day to be the best workout, and on the other hand many opt to instead rest in a lounge chair underneath an umbrella with a good book. If there’s one thing you can say about recreation in Lake San Marcos, it’s that there is certainly fun to be had for every type of person.

3:00-4:00 pm: Community Bike Ride

After you’ve recharged poolside, it’s time to hit the pavement and explore North County’s best-kept secret, the community of Lake San Marcos. Hop on your bike and just pedal. Anywhere in Lake San Marcos, you’ll find something to ogle at or a smiling face to reconnect with. A bike ride through Lake San Marcos provides residents and guests with a fantastic opportunity to take in views of the golf courses below, homes above, and the lake in the middle of it all. If you find the time, stop by a neighbor’s house just to say “hello,” and invite them out for your next ride!

4:00-5:00 pm: Horseshoe Tournament

Your last activity of the day will take place on the lakeside lawn, where you’ll engage in a friendly and/or competitive game of horseshoes while taking in the day’s twilight and the marvelous views of the lake as well as the community’s new, premier dining establishment, Decoy Dockside. And in case you were wondering, yes, there is a way to play an organized game of horseshoes. Give it a shot!.

5:00 - Well, up to you!: Dinner At Decoy

Congratulations! You've paddled, swung, pedaled, and swam your way to the final stop on your Lake San Marcos Decathalon; and what a stop it is.
